Economics rocks

For the last three years I’ve written a preview of the Festival of Economics held in Trento in northern Italy. Our sister organisation, Unimondo, is based there.

Each time, I’ve had to overcome my presumption of satire in the very concept of a Festival Economia. Who in their right mind wants to spend a week dozing through the latest theories of exogenous shocks to the Eurozone, just as the European music and arts festival season gets into full swing?

Then I recall the empathy for global development issues in this part of Italy, the medieval nooks and crannies of a genial city, and the top quality international speakers that are lured to this unlikely venue – and yes, one of these years I’d rather like to go myself.
